Antique Chicken Weathervane circa 1880s

Description

This is an antique chicken weathervane dating from the 1880s.  Weathervane is 21.5 inches wide from beak to tail, 22 inches tall from head to end of pole.  Pole itself extends 3.5 inches from body and is 1.5 inches in diameter.  Metal itself is 1/16 inch thick except for where the pole mount is attached.  There are several area of wear on the item, some holes, and there is a slight bend where the tail meets the body.  Item has been seen by an appraiser who determined: "A cut and constructed metal American weathervane by an anonymous artisan in the form of a chicken, dating to late 19th century, circa 1880s."  Appraised retail value of item is opening auction price.
